Chapter 1 – Getting Started

THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS for purchasing the GallantWEB. GallantWEB is the Easy Internet Office SolutionΤ designed to connect your office network to the Internet quickly and securely.  Basic capabilities, such as Internet routing and file management, are built-in, and configuring advanced capabilities, such as firewall, VPN, and email service, is easy.

GallantWEB Hardware Components

Connect the GallantWEB Hardware

 

NOTE: This guide assumes that you already have an Ethernet network connected to the Internet through a modem or router.

 

1.        Connect the GallantWEB’s WAN port to your cable modem, DSL modem, or Internet router using the cable provided with the modem/router.

 

 

2.        Connect the GallantWEB’s LAN port to your LAN hub/switch.

3.        Connect the power cord to the GallantWEB’s power input and plug the other end into an AC power outlet.

 

 

4.        Turn on the GallantWEB using the power switch on the front panel. The “Boot from disk...” message on the LCD panel indicates that the GallantWEB is booting. The boot process takes about 30 seconds to complete.

5.        After the boot process, the LCD panel displays the GallantWEB status.


Configure the Controller Workstation

 

NOTE: Any workstation on your LAN can manage the GallantWEB, but it is advisable to dedicate one workstation as the Controller Workstation.

 

You must configure the Controller Workstation to use a static IP address of 10.0.0.2 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway of 10.0.0.1. The following describes how to configure the Controller Workstation depending on your operating system.

 

 

Configure Windows 95/98/ME As Controller Workstation

 

1.        Click on “Start”, select “Settings” and launch “Control Panel

2.        In the Control Panel window and double click on “Network

3.        From the list of Network Components, select “TCP->*Network Card*” and click on “Properties”. (*Network Card* is the type of Network Card that you have.)

 

 

4.        On the IP Address tab, select “Specify an IP address.” Enter “10.0.0.2” in IP Address and enter “255.255.255.0” in Subnet Mask.

 

 

5.        Select the “Gateway” tab, and type in “10.0.0.1” and click on “Add

 

 

6.        Next select the “DNS Configuration” tab, select “Enable DNS”, and enter “gweb” as Host.

7.        Enter “10.0.0.1” under the DNS Server Search Order.  Click on “Add.”

 

 

8.        Click on “OK” and Windows promptly reboots. After reboot, you are ready to connect to the GallantWEB.

 

 

Configure Windows 2000 As Controller Workstation

 

1.        Click on “Start”, select “Settings,” and launch “Network and Dial-up Connections”.

2.        In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, right click on “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties”.

3.        In the Local Area Connection Properties window, select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on “Properties

 

 

4.        On the General tab, select “Use the following IP address” and enter the “10.0.0.2” in IP address, “255.255.255.0” in Subnet Mask and “10.0.0.1” in Default Gateway.

5.        Next select on “Use the following DNS server addresses”, and enter “10.0.0.1” in Preferred DNS server. Leave the Alternate DNS server empty. Click on “OK

 

 

6.        Return to the Local Area Connection Properties window, click on “OK.” Close the Network and Dial-up Connections window, and you are ready to connect to the GallantWEB.

 

 

Configure Windows XP As Controller Workstation

 

1.        Click on “Start” and select “Control Panel

2.        In the Control Panel window, click on “Network and Internet Connections

3.        In the Network and Internet Connections window, click on “Network Connections

 

 

4.        In the Network Connections window, right click on “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties

 

5.        In the Local Area Connection Properties page, select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on “Properties

6.        On the General tab, select “Use The Following IP Address.” Enter “10.0.0.2” in IP address, enter “255.255.255.0” in Subnet mask and enter “10.0.0.1” in Default gateway.

7.        Select “Use the following DNS server addresses” and enter “10.0.0.1” in Preferred DNS server. Leave Alternate DNS server empty.

 

 

8.        Click on “OK” and close both the Local Area Connection Properties and Network Connections windows.

9.        You are ready to connect to the GallantWEB.


GallantWizard Configuration Program

 

 

After you have set up your Controller Workstation, you use the Controller Workstation to configure the GallantWEB using the GallantWizard configuration program.

 

1.        Launch your Internet browser on the Controller Workstation and enter “http://10.0.0.1:8000” in the address field and press enter.

 

 

2.        You will get a Security Alert from your browser; this is normal because GallantWizard is encrypted with SSL. Click on “Yes

 

 

3.        GallantWizard will load and request a User Name and Password. Enter “super” for User Name and enter “super” for Password and click on “OK

 

 

4.        For first time users, GallantWizard will load the System Registration page. Enter the Serial Number printed on the GallantWEB Rescue CD case. Fill in all of the registration information on the page. Click on “NEXT >>” to configure your Internet Connection.

 

 

 


Configure Internet Connection

 

Before you configure the Internet connection, please make sure that you have all of your Internet connection information available. The list below helps you gather all the information that you need:

 

·         Connection type (Cable Modem/Dial-up/DSL/T1/etc.)

·         IP address type (Static/Dynamic/PPPoE)

·         IP address (Static only)

·         Subnet mask (Static only)

·         Default gateway (Static only)

·         DHCP host name (Dynamic only) – if any

·         User name (Dial-up and PPPoE only)

·         Password (Dial-up and PPPoE only)

·         Phone Number (Dial-up only)

·         Host Name (All connections)

·         Domain Name (All connections)

·         Workgroup Name (All connections)

·         Primary DNS server (All connections)

·         Secondary DNS server (All connections)

 

The following are the instructions to configure the GallantWEB based on your Internet connection type.

 

 

Cable Modem/DSL with Static IP Address

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login if you have not done so.

2.        From the Main Menu, select “Global Configuration.” (First time users begin in Global Configuration.)

3.        In the System Registration page, enter the Serial Number and Registration Information if you have not done so. The Serial Number is printed on the GallantWEB Rescue CD case. Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

4.        In the Local Area Network Setup page, you can modify the LAN IP address on the GallantWEB. We recommend the default 10.0.0.1 for IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask. Click on “NEXT >>

5.        In the Internet Connection Setup page, select “Ethernet DSL/cable modem or router connected to the “WAN” Ethernet port.” Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

6.        In the WAN Ethernet Port page, select “The ISP assigns a fixed IP address and gateway address.” Click on “NEXT >>

7.        In the Internet Connection Setup for Static IP page, enter the IP Address, the Subnet Mask and the Gateway. Click on “NEXT >>

8.        In the Host Name and Domain Name Setup page, you can modify the Host Name and Domain Name. If you do not have a registered domain name or are unsure, use the default values. Enter the Primary DNS Server Address and the Secondary DNS Server Address. Leave DNS Server 3 field empty. Click on “NEXT >>.” (The Host Name is any name referring to GallantWEB. The Domain Name that you entered will be the Primary Domain on your GallantWEB. All services will be enabled for the Primary Domain.)

 

 

9.        In the Windows Network Configuration page, enter Windows Workgroup Name in Workgroup Name. (If unsure, use the default “WORKGROUP”.) Select “Use the GallantWEB as the WINS Server” in WINS Server and click on “NEXT >>.” (If there is an existing Windows NT/2000 server on the LAN, select “Use the existing WINS server on the Network” and enter the IP Address of the server in WINS Server IP Address.)

 

 

10.     In the Time Zone Setup page, select the correct Region, Country, and Location where you are located. Click on “NEXT >>

11.     In the Congratulations page, click on “Apply Changes.”

12.     When the Apply Changes page appears, click on “OK,” and you can browse the Internet now.

13.     Open your Internet browser and view http://www.gallantry.com to test the Internet connection.

 

 

Cable Modem with Dynamic IP Address

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login if you have not done so.

2.        From the Main Menu, select “Global Configuration.” (For first time users, you are already in the Global Configuration.)

3.        In the System Registration page, enter the Serial Number and Registration Information if you have not done so. The serial number is printed on the GallantWEB Rescue CD case. Click “NEXT >>

 

 

4.        In the Local Area Network Setup page, you can modify the LAN IP address on the GallantWEB. We recommend the default 10.0.0.1 for IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask unless you have a different IP address on your existing network. Click on “NEXT >>

5.        In the Internet Connection Setup page, select “Ethernet DSL/cable modem or router connected to the “WAN” Ethernet port.” Click on “NEXT >>

 

6.        In the WAN Ethernet Port page, select “The ISP uses DHCP to assign a dynamic IP address and gateway address.” Click on “NEXT >>

7.        In the Internet Connection Setup for DHCP page, enter DHCP Host Name in Host name to be sent to DHCP server. Leave it blank if your ISP does not provide this information. Click on “NEXT >>

8.        In the Host Name and Domain Name Setup page, you can modify the Host Name and Domain Name. If you do not have a registered domain name or are unsure, use the default values. Enter the Primary DNS Server Address and the Secondary DNS Server Address. Leave DNS Server 3 field empty. Click on “NEXT >>.” (The Domain Name that you entered will be the Primary Domain on your GallantWEB. All services will be enabled for the Primary Domain.)

 

9.        In the Windows Network Configuration page, enter Windows Workgroup Name in Workgroup Name. (If unsure, use the default “WORKGROUP”.) Select “Use the GallantWEB as the WINS Server” in WINS Server and click on “NEXT >>.” (If there is a Windows NT/ 2000 server on the LAN, select “Use the existing WINS server on the Network” and enter the IP Address of the server in WINS Server IP Address.)

 

 

10.     In the Time Zone Setup page, select the correct Region, Country, and Location where you are located. Click on “NEXT >>

11.     In the Congratulations page, click on “Apply Changes.”

12.     When the Apply Changes page appears, click on “OK,” and you can browse the Internet now.

13.     Open your Internet browser and view http://www.gallantry.com to test the Internet connection.

 

 

DSL with PPPoE

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login if you have not done so.

2.        From the Main Menu, select “Global Configuration.” (For first time users, you are already in the Global Configuration.)

3.        In the System Registration page, enter the Serial Number and Registration Information if you have not done so. The serial number is printed on the GallantWEB Rescue CD case. Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

4.        In the Local Area Network Setup page, you can modify the LAN IP address on the GallantWEB. We recommend the default 10.0.0.1 for IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask unless you have a different IP address on your existing network. Click on “NEXT >>

5.        In the Internet Connection Setup page, select “Ethernet DSL/cable modem or router connected to the “WAN” Ethernet port.” Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

6.        In the Wan Ethernet Port page, select “The ISP uses PPPoE to assign a dynamic IP address and gateway address.” Click on “NEXT >>

7.        In the PPPoE Connection Setup page, enter the User name and Password provided by your ISP. Click on “NEXT >>

8.        In the following page, click on “TEST” to verify your connection. If you see Sorry, test failed, click on “<< BACK” and review your User Name and Password and try again. If you see Congratulations! The PPPoE configuration was tested successfully, the connection is good. Click on “NEXT >>

9.        In the Host Name and Domain Name Setup page, you can modify the Host Name and Domain Name. If you do not have a registered domain name or are unsure, use the default values. Enter the Primary DNS Server Address and the Secondary DNS Server Address. Leave DNS Server 3 field empty. Click on “NEXT >>.” (The Domain Name that you entered will be the Primary Domain on your GallantWEB. All services will be enabled for the Primary Domain.)

 

10.     In the Windows Network Configuration page, enter Windows Workgroup Name in Workgroup Name. (If unsure, use the default “WORKGROUP”.) 14.     Open your Internet browser and view http://www.gallantry.com to test the Internet connection.

 

 

Analog/ISDN Dial up Connection

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login if you have not done so.

2.        From the Main Menu, select “Global Configuration.” (For first time users, you are already in the Global Configuration.)

3.        In the System Registration page, enter the Serial Number and Registration Information if you have not done so. The serial number is printed on the GallantWEB Rescue CD case. Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

4.        In the Local Area Network Setup page, you can modify the LAN IP address on the GallantWEB. We recommend the default 10.0.0.1 for IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask unless you have a different IP address on your existing network. Click on “NEXT >>

5.        In the Internet Connection Setup page, select “Dial-up connection using a regular or ISDN modem.” Click on “NEXT >>

6.        In the PPP Dial-up Connection Setup page, enter the Phone Number, Login Name, and Password.  Leave other information as default unless you receive specific instructions from your ISP. Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

7.        In the following page, click on “TEST” to verify your connection. If you see Sorry, test failed, click on “<< BACK” and review your User Name and Password and try again. If you see Congratulations! The Dial-up configuration was tested successfully, the connection is good. Click on “NEXT >>

8.        In the Host Name and Domain Name Setup page, you can modify the Host Name and Domain Name. If you do not have a registered domain name or are unsure, use the default values. Enter the Primary DNS Server Address and enter the Secondary DNS Server Address. Leave DNS Server 3 field empty. Click on “NEXT >>.” (The Domain Name that you entered will be the Primary Domain on your GallantWEB. All services will be enabled for the Primary Domain.)

 

9.        In the Windows Network Configuration page, enter Windows Workgroup Name in Workgroup Name. (If unsure, use the default “WORKGROUP”.) Select “Use the GallantWEB as the WINS Server” in WINS Server and click on “NEXT >>.” (If there is a Windows NT/2000 server on the LAN, select “Use the existing WINS server on the Network” and enter the IP Address of the server in WINS Server IP Address.)

 

 

10.     In the Time Zone Setup page, select the correct Region, Country, and Location where you are located. Click on “NEXT >>

11.     In the Congratulations page, click on “Apply Changes.”

12.     When the Apply Changes page appears, click on “OK,” and you can browse the Internet now.

13.     Open your Internet browser and view http://www.gallantry.com to test the Internet connection.

 

 

Local Area Network (LAN)

 

This configuration assumes the GallantWEB does not function as an Internet gateway and uses another router for Internet access.

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login if you have not done so.

2.        From the Main Menu, select “Global Configuration.” (For first time users, you are already in the Global Configuration.)

3.        In the System Registration page, enter the Serial Number and Registration Information if you have not done so. The serial number is printed on the GallantWEB Rescue CD case. Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

4.        In the Local Area Network Setup page, you can modify the LAN IP address on the GallantWEB. We recommend the default 10.0.0.1 for IP Address and 255.255.255.0 for Subnet Mask unless you have a different IP address on your existing network. Click on “NEXT >>

5.        In the Internet Connection Setup page, select “External router connected to the LAN.” Click on “NEXT >>

 

 

6.        In the Internet Connection Setup for LAN Router page, enter the Default Gateway assigned to the GallantWEB. Click on “NEXT >>

7.        In the Host Name and Domain Name Setup page, you can modify the Host Name and Domain Name. If you do not have a registered domain name or are unsure, use the default values. Enter the Primary DNS Server Address and the Secondary DNS Server Address. Leave DNS Server 3 field empty. Click on “NEXT >>.” (The Domain Name that you entered will be the Primary Domain on your GallantWEB. All services will be enabled for the Primary Domain.)

 

 

8.        In the Windows Network Configuration page, enter Windows Workgroup Name in Workgroup Name. (If unsure, use the default “WORKGROUP”.) Select “Use the GallantWEB as the WINS Server” in WINS Server and click on “NEXT >>.” (If there is a Windows NT/2000 server on the LAN, select “Use the existing WINS server on the Network” and enter the IP Address of the server in WINS Server IP Address.)

 

 

9.        In the Time Zone Setup page, select the correct Region, Country, and Location where you are located. Click on “NEXT >>

10.     In the Congratulations page, click on “Apply Changes.”

11.     When the Apply Changes page appears, click on “OK,” and you can browse the Internet now.

12.     Open your Internet browser and view http://www.gallantry.com to test the Internet connection.

 


Chapter 2 – Configure Workstations

After you set up the GallantWEB using the Controller Workstation, you need to configure all workstations on the LAN to share the Internet connection. Follow the instructions to configure your workstations based on IP address type.

 

 

Configure GallantWEB to Assign Dynamic IP Addresses

 

By default, the GallantWEB assigns dynamic IP addresses. DO NOT follow the instructions below unless you wish to modify the GallantWEB DHCP server.

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login.

2.        Select “Service Selection” from the Main Menu.

3.        In the Service Selection page, select “DHCP Server

4.        In the DHCP Service Configuration page, click on “Add.” (Use “Bulk Add” to add multiple IP Addresses.)

5.        In the Add a LAN IP Address page, enter an IP Address within the LAN IP Range in IP Address, select “DHCP” in Type, enter Host Name in Host Name, select DNS Mapping and select Reverse DNS Mapping. Click on “OK

 

 

6.        Return to DHCP Service Configuration. Click on “Save and Exit

7.        Next, click on “Apply Changes

8.        The new DHCP addresses are now added.

 


Configure Client Workstations with Dynamic IP Addresses

 

By default, GallantWEB assigns dynamic IP addresses to all workstations. It is recommended that you configure all workstations to use dynamic IP addresses.

 

 

Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME with Dynamic IP Address

 

1.        Click on “Start”, select “Settings”, and launch “Control Panel

2.        In the Control Panel window, and select “Network

3.        From the list of Network Components, select “TCP->*Network Card*” and click on “Properties”. (*Network Card* is the type of Network Card that you have.)

 

 

4.        On the IP Address tab, select on “Obtain IP Address Automatically

5.        Select the “Gateway” tab, select all installed gateways (if any) and click on “Delete.”

6.        Next select the “DNS Configuration” tab, select “Disable DNS.”

7.        Click on “OK,” and windows will prompt for reboot. After reboot, you are ready to connect to the Internet through the GallantWEB.

 

 

Microsoft Windows 2000 with Dynamic IP Address

 

1.        Click on “Start”, select “Settings,” and launch “Network and Dial-up Connections”.

 

2.        In the Network and Dial-up Connections window, right click on “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties”.

3.        In the Local Area Network Properties window, select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on “Properties

 

 

4.        On the General tab in Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically  Click on “OK

5.        Return to the Local Area Network Properties window, click on “OK

6.        Return to and close the Network and Dial-up Connections window.

7.        You are ready to connect to the Internet through the GallantWEB.

 

 

Microsoft Windows XP with Dynamic IP Address

 

1.        Click on “Start” and select “Control Panel

2.        In the Control Panel, click on “Network and Internet Connections

3.        In Network and Internet Connections, click “Network Connections

4.        In the Network Connections, right click on “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties

5.        In the Local Area Connection Properties, select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on “Properties

 

 

6.        On the General tab, select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and select “Obtain DNS server address automatically

 

 

7.        Click on “OK” and close both the Local Area Connection Properties and Network Connections windows.

8.        You are ready to connect to the Internet through the GallantWEB.

 

 

Configure GallantWEB to Assign Static IP Addresses

 

By default, the GallantWEB occupies all LAN IP addresses for DHCP service. You need to manually free these addresses before you can assign them statically.

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login.

2.        Select “Service Selection” from the Main Menu.

3.        In the Service Selection page, select “DHCP Server

4.        In the DHCP Service Configuration page, select an IP Address and click on “Delete.” (Use “Bulk Delete” to delete multiple IP addresses.)

5.        Return to the DHCP Service Configuration page, click on “Add.” (Use “Bulk Add” to add multiple IP addresses.)

6.        In Add a LAN IP Address, enter the IP Address you deleted in step 4, in IP Address, select “Static” in Type, enter Host Name in Host Name, select DNS Mapping, and select Reverse DNS Mapping. Click “OK

 

 

7.        Return to DHCP Service Configuration, click on “Save and Exit

8.        Next, click on “Apply Changes

9.        The new DHCP address is added.

 

 

Configure Client Workstations with Static IP Addresses

 

When configuring your workstations with static IP addresses or a mixture of static and dynamic IP addresses, each workstation must be assigned a unique IP address. You also need to reconfigure the GallantWEB to assign IP addresses statically (refer to Configure GallantWEB to Assign Static IP Addresses above).

 

 

Microsoft Windows 95/98/ME with Static IP Address

 

1.        Click on “Start”, select “Settings,” and launch “Control Panel

2.        In the Control Panel, and select “Network

3.        From the list of Network Components, select “TCP->*Network Card*” and click on “Properties”. (*Network Card* is the type of your Network Card.)

4.        On the IP Address tab, select “Specify an IP address.” Enter the IP Address for this workstation and the corresponding Subnet Mask. There should NOT be two workstations with the same IP address.  

 

 

5.        Select the “Gateway” tab, and type in “10.0.0.1” and click on “Add.” (If you previously changed the GallantWEB IP Address, please replace “10.0.0.1” with the new IP address.)

 

 

6.        Next select the “DNS Configuration” tab, select “Enable DNS”, and enter “gweb” as Host.

7.        Enter “10.0.0.1” under the DNS Server Search Order and click on “Add.” (If you previously changed the GallantWEB IP Address, please replace “10.0.0.1” with the new IP address.)

 

 

8.        Click on “OK” and Windows will prompt for reboot. After reboot, you are ready to connect to the Internet through the GallantWEB.

 

 

Microsoft Windows 2000 with Static IP Address

 

1.        Click on “Start”, select “Settings” and launch “Network Dial Up Connections

2.        Right click on the adapter that is currently connected to the GallantWEB network and select “Properties

3.        Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and click on “Properties

 

 

4.        On the “General” tab, select “Use the following IP address” and enter the IP Address for this workstation, the corresponding Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway (the default gateway is usually the IP address of the GallantWEB).

5.        Next select on “Use the following DNS server addresses”, and enter the GallantWEB’s IP address into Preferred DNS server field. (You may enter the DNS servers provided by your ISP.) Click on “OK

 

 

 

6.        Go back to the Local Area Network Properties window, click on “OK” again.  Return to and close the Network and Dial-up Connections window. You are ready to connect to the Internet through the GallantWEB.


Microsoft Windows XP with Static IP Address

7.        Select on “Use the following DNS server addresses” and enter the GallantWEB’s IP address into Preferred DNS server. (You may enter the DNS servers provided by your ISP to Alternate DNS server.)

 

 

8.        Click on “OK” and close both the Local Area Connection Properties and Network Connections windows.

9.        You are ready to connect to the Internet through the GallantWEB.

 

 


Chapter 3 – Manage User Accounts

Before the GallantWEB can provide any services to LAN users, you must create a User Name for each user. This User Name enables users to access services that the GallantWEB provides, such as email, file sharing, FTP, etc.

 

 

Create New Users

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login.

2.        Select “System Administration” from the Main Menu.

3.        In the System Administration page, select “User Account Management

4.        In the User Account Management page, select “Create New User

5.        Enter the User Name and the initial Password. User Name must be one lower case word no longer than 32 characters.

 

 

6.        Enter other optional information and click on “Create This User

7.        Click on “OK” and return to User Account Management.

8.        The newly added user is now active and can access services on the GallantWEB.

 

 

Edit User Accounts

 

1.        Launch GallantWizard and login.

2.        Select “System Administration” from the Main Menu.

3.        In the System Administration page, select “User Account Management

4.        In the User Account Management page, locate the User Name from the User Account Table and click on the User Name. You can navigate or sort the order of the User Account Table using the Navigation Tools.

 

 

5.        Make any necessary changes and select “Save User Profile
